Horses and Heroes of Southeast Florida

Equine Assisted Learning

Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is an innovative approach to therapeutic care for veterans with emotional scar tissue. It involves working with horses in a non threatening and non judgmental environment which allows for cultivating healthy relationships, builds self confidence creates curiosity and develops puzzling solving skills. This approach has been proven to have tangible positive effects on Veterans and First Responders.

This therapeutic experience helps veterans, first responders and members of the military community heal from emotional wounds. Horses provide an ideal platform for partnership and forming relationships . Horses are non-judgmental and their natural gifts allow participants to explore their current experiences in a safe environment.

Through activities such as Herd observations and use and understanding of non verbal communication (body language) and exploring energy and intention, individuals can learn valuable life skills like trust, connection, self-awareness, teamwork and resilience. Equine assisted learning has been proven to help veterans manage unwanted symptoms and enhance overall well-being through an enjoyable process that allows them to connect with another sentient being on an emotional level as they work towards healing from trauma.
